What you need in order to take great Mount Kilimanjaro photos from above:
We recommend you look for the following main features in the camera you wish to take with you onboard your Kilimanjaro scenic flight:
1. A camera that has high resolution with fast shutter speeds and a high ISO range.
2. A camera with a powerful processor along with a fast lens
Some examples of cameras you may want to take are the Canon EOS R, Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, and the GoPro HERO7.
N.B:
A smartphone with a good camera can also do the job but smartphones usually have limited power
What makes Kilimanjaro scenic flight great for photography experience
It takes only one hour:
Hiking Kilimanjaro takes a minimum of 5 days to capture it’s glaciers and peaks. However, on board your Kilimanjaro scenic flight you will capture them and many more in just one hour. This also means you don’t have to worry about charging your camera/phone as you would if you were to climb the mountain for days.
360 view of the peaks:
Your aircraft is flown in a figure 8, ensuring all passengers sitting on either the left or right of the aircraft get a full 360 view of the mountain. You will have full access of taking shots of both the glaciers, Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
Even a phone can do the job:
Yes, even a smartphone with a good inbuilt camera can do the job. However, for professional results, we recommend you get yourself a good quality professional camera.
Big windows:
The aircraft windows in Kilimanjaro scenic flight are bigger compared to the ones on normal commercial airlines. The size is large enough enabling you to see well and take great photos. On our flights, every passenger gets a window seat.
We fly close to the mountain:
We fly close to the mountain that you can easily take great photos of the mountain. On a clear day if you will be able to see some of the hikers camps around the mountain. The mountain is 19340 feet, we typically fly over the mountain at 21,000 feet.
We fly only when the mountain is visible:
To make sure that you maximize your photography experience, we only fly when the weather is good and the mountain and it’s peaks are visible.
