Sustainability

Is the heart of Ruka Africa

Why It's Important

We work hard to reduce our impact for more to enjoy the sights of Kilimanjaro

In the past, a sky-high experience with a bird’s eye view of Mt. Kilimanjaro was only been provided upon request. This has resulted in a cost-intensive experience due to logistical costs of hiring the entire aircraft. By offering regularly scheduled scenic flights, the costs are reduced making the experience affordable for the customer.

This experience has created jobs, brought in revenue as well as given tourists a convenient way to experience Mt. Kilimanjaro. With more frequency, availability and growth, we are prone to the challenges associated with scenic flights operations in environmentally sensitive areas such as national parks namely, air and noise pollution, safety concerns and weather.

Through the creation of a sustainable approach — our business model, flight plan and operating procedures, we are mitigating these challenges and establishing the way forward towards continuous safe and environmentally-friendly scenic flights around Mt.Kilimanjaro.

Our Commitment

To Noise Pollution

We minimize our noise footprint by flying a specific flight pattern that avoids noise sensitive areas all together.

Our Actions

To Carbon Offset
We offset the carbon produced from your Kilimanjaro scenic flight at the Yaeda Valley, south of Lake Eyasi. We do this in cooperation with the Carbon Tanzania project.

Our Reduced Impact

To Carbon Emmissions
Through efficiency, we are able to save an average of 30 liters of Jet A1 on every flight we operate. In just 55 flights, we have been able to save 1,650 liters of Jet A1 equivalent to 4.1 tonnes of Co2 emissions.
