Our Commitment

To Reducing Noise Pollution

Reducing Noise

A solution to noise

Noise simply refers to “unwanted sound”. Studies have shown that aircraft noise can impact human populations (e.g stress, sleep disturbance etc.)

Our scenic flights are operated in the morning as this is the best time the mountain is visible. Unfortunately, this is also the time that the trekkers approach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

In light of this, we respect the trekkers and do not want to be a nuisance! So we work hard to mitigate the noise levels to lessen the impact amongst the trekkers and wildlife souring above 20,000ft.

Our Flight Path

We work hard to reduce our impact
We take a specific flight route that avoids noise sensitive areas altogether. Our flight path takes us on the northern side of the mountain, which has less traffic in comparison to its alternate routes. Moreover, we do not fly directly over the summit, where the Uhuru Peak sign post and thousands of trekkers enjoy their glory.

Solutions to Noise

Helicopter Vs Airplane

While there are many other factors we considered on whether to use fixed wing or helicopters, such as aircraft capability, safety, shared economy model, noise was an important aspect as well.

Aircraft noise originates from the main rotor, engine and gearing (HAI, 2009). Helicopter noise pose a particular problem, Veillette (2015) explained the sound generated by the tail rotor is the most annoying to human beings, because it occurs directly in the hearing spectrum which is the most sensitive part of the human ear. Even though efforts to combat has resulted in modification to the tail rotor i.e NOTAR and Fenestron systems. A fixed wing aircraft would be best suited for our operation.
