Scenic Flight: A convenient alternative to trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro

Reasons why Kilimanjaro Scenic Flight is convenient to trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro:

  1. Altitude Sickness
  2. Time
  3. Cost
  4. Fitness Level
  5. Rebound Flight

Booking a seat in a helicopter or an aircraft for sightseeing is a simple way of describing Scenic Flights. Kilimanjaro Scenic Flight is a 50-minute sky-high feast for the eyes, offering you unparalleled views of the beautiful glaciers that tumble down from the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Having summited Mt. Kilimanjaro ourselves, and having first-hand experience of the challenges along the way, we decided to create a faster and more convenient way to experience Mount Kilimanjaro other than the standard week-long trek!

Here at Ruka, we believe that seeing Mount Kilimanjaro is a once in a lifetime opportunity when visiting Tanzania and everyone should have a chance to experience it.

We, therefore, designed an experience to counter the factors that might stop you from trekking Kilimanjaro to serve as a convenient alternative!

5 reasons Kilimanjaro Scenic Flight is convenient to trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro

1. Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is the most common factor preventing climbers from reaching Uhuru peak. Described as the inability to acclimatize to the altitude, this can affect anyone who reaches high altitudes between 8,000 – 12,000 feet above sea level and can result in headaches, nausea, vomiting and lightheadedness, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, and a general loss of energy.

Not necessarily how you want to spend your holiday!

Our fleet is fully equipped with proper oxygen allowing our guests to breathe freely at high altitudes keeping their bodies in the right state to fully experience Kilimanjaro and its unique features.

2. Time

Your time off work is both precious and limited, so we know it can be a difficult task planning a 2 week holiday, especially with all the great options in Tanzania!

You can go on Safari in the Serengeti, sunbathe on the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar,  take in all the wildlife on a boat safari in the largest game reserve in Africa, Selous, and of course, trek to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa,  which takes 6-9 trekking days on average, for the best chance of succeeding when visiting Tanzania.

Why not do and see it all by taking a 50-minute scenic flight around Mt. Kilimanjaro instead of spending half your holiday on one attraction!

3. Cost

Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro is very expensive! There are park fees, camping/hut fees, food, equipment, transportation and other logistical costs, let alone your supporting crew of porters, guides salaries and tips!. The cost for Kilimanjaro climbs range from $1800 to $4000 and above!

Kilimanjaro Scenic Flights is a more cost-effective experience and offers similar sightings such as the Reusch crater, glaciers, volcanic peaks, vegetational change, etc

4. Fitness level

Trekking Kilimanjaro is a strenuous activity that takes place over a number of days. While there are incredible statistics on young & old age, with physical and mental disabilities, who have successfully made it to Uhuru peak, fitness level is still a factor that can hinder yourself, friends or family the opportunity to experience Kilimanjaro. On the other side, our crew will help you get on board and ensure you are comfortable and ready to enjoy a painless experience of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

5. Rebound Flight

Say you saw Mount Kilimanjaro on a magazine, on the web, a plane, or its been a long time bucket list item; You finally made the decision to book and embark on the 7 days trek to Africa’s rooftop. Unfortunately, you did not make it to Uhuru peak for various reasons as many other trekkers. Do not pounder in disappointment, rather celebrate your bravery, with similar views as those of the “white-necked ravens” you saw, that float fearlessly on the mountain.

As you fly above Uhuru Peak and the Reusch Crater, gather up the courage to rise and try again, as “nothing is impossible to a willing heart” (Haywood, 1562)

In all, regardless of your fitness level, limited time, budget, age, or health conditions,  we offer a safe, convenient experience of a lifetime using the best aircraft and crew with a guarantee of a window seat for you!
